Trail Thoughts and Musings
The Chimney Tree is a testimonial to the durability of coast redwoods. Although this tree is entirely hollow from base to top, it is a living and growing redwood. It is theorized that several successive fires over the years ignited the tree's heartwood, and created a perfect flue. Redwoods have been known to smolder and burn for over a year before the fire dies out.
