This grand old tree is estimated to be 2,000 years old. During the early years of the campaign to save this old-growth redwood forest, this particular tree was a popular subject for photographers who wanted to show the size and beauty of these trees. In 1902 the California Redwood Park was established, which is now known as Big Basin Redwoods State Park -- the oldest California State Park.
