The trail now taunts the hiker by once again descending to another creek only to climb one more ridge. It with some surprise that this strange apparition appears by the path. Could some Polynesian tribe have landed here and built a monument to their gods? Actually, these are notches used by loggers to wedge boards into. They then stood on them to fell the tree.
