Although redwood trees can live for thousands of years, El Niņo has taken this one in the prime of its life. It is yet one more storm victim. The thunderous noise of its fall can be estimated from the shattered trunk lying across the trail. The many splinters of wood thrust in all directions make it a delicate task in climbing over to the other side.
