Overlooking the Desolation
Trail Thoughts and Musings
As you descend along the trail towards Hatchet Creek, you can see the extent of the devastation that was caused by the Fountain Fire. The morning of August 20, 1992 promised to be another hot and dry day in the sixth year of a drought. The sun shone down on a dry but still vibrant forest of mixed pines. An arsonist put an end to that shortly before 1:00 p.m. the same day.
