Chaparral Closes in on the Trail

It is axiomatic that grasses and chaparral are the first plants to reclaim the land after fire has razed a forest. Even though reforestation efforts were put into effect, large sections were left to natural restoration. Here brush has grown thick, threatening to choke the trail. A single charred trunk stands as a reminder of the vast forest that once occupied this land.
