Subjective Trail Rating for Beauty and Difficulty:
This is a trail that makes very little demands on the hiker. Jones trail is a dirt road that has a moderate climb up to the junction with Flume trail. Flume trail is sometime narrow but it is downhill all the way. The views are pleasant with some fine views of the Santa Cruz mountains and the city of Los Gatos.
No permits are required. Access is free but there is street parking only.
Take the Highway 9 exit off Highway 17. Turn east on Highway 9 until it ends at Los Gatos Blvd. Make a right turn towards downtown Los Gatos. Turn left when you reach College Ave and take it to Jones road which turns right. Novitiate park (where the trail starts) is at the end of Jones road.
For a free trail map, contact the Midpenisula Open Space District at the address below. To obtain a USGS topographic map of the area, ask for Los Gatos.
