Fallen Goliath

Trail Thoughts and Musings

Coast redwoods are experts at survival, but old age as well as fire, wind and rain eventually takes their toll. It was heavy rains followed by high winds in 1997 that caused this ancient warrior to fall. It has completely blocked the path at this point. It will be interesting to see how the park service will restore the path. The most likely technique will be to cut out a section of the tree for the path, leaving the rest of the tree as is.
