After the trail fork the Pine Mountain trail turns left and start its ascent to Pine Mountain. This summit lies at one of the highest points in Big Basin. The trail begins with an ascent that continues until the 1100 foot climb is completed. This initial portion of the trail makes its ascent in a forest community which has the blessing of providing a shady climb.
