The dense redwood groves begin to thin as the trail travels through a more diversified area of Big Basin. One last ancient warrior stands guard by the trail as if bidding the hiker a brief farewell. Moss covers much of the massive trunk transforming its natural color to an intense emerald hue. This tree was growing here when the Mayan culture was at its zenith in what is now Mexico.
