The Ubiquitous Hollow Redwood

After negotiating the slippery mud, the trail progresses to a joyous dry portion. Here in the foreground can be seen yet another redwood. Most older redwood trees all seem to have an opening into a hollowed out part. This is because redwoods are very resistant to fire and even if the interior is destroyed it will continue to live. As long as the living outer portion is intact, the redwood can survive
