A Glimpse of the Surrounding Hills

Trail Thoughts and Musings

Although a clear view is prevented by the dense forest, every once in a while a glimpse of the hills and ridges can be obtained. Here, enough elevation has be gained so a crest of the mountains on the other side of the lake can be seen. The canopy of redwoods consists almost entirely of second growth trees. In the late 1800's the hills were stripped bare of vegetation as the timber was clear cut for commercial use.
