Coastal Redwoods

Trail Thoughts and Musings

Sequoia trail is well named. It travels through ancient stands of these impressive trees. Although not as massive as their cousins in the Sierra Nevada, they are taller. Because they use most of the available sunlight, the understory consists of shade tolerant plants such as ferns and redwood sorrel. Their needles can condense the thick marine fog causing droplets to fall like rain around their base.
