The floods that occurred in Yosemite in 1997 were among the worst in recorded times. Most bridges were severely damaged and those around Happy Isle were no exception. Here the park service has provided an alternate route which follows up the north side of the Merced. The path is wide and level as it wends its way among the tall pine trees.
