According to Ken Drummond it was the special bonds of friendship, service and loyalty which are formed in the Navy, that led him in 1988 to form the Mid Mon Valley Shipmates. His goal was for the group was to go to schools, give talks and perform at various services.

In pursuit of these goals, they perform honor services at funerals of deceased Navy personnel, visit schools and participate in parades or any veteran-related function . According to Ken Drummond, our main function is to inform anyone who wants to know anything about the Navy.

He goes on to say that the name Shipmates stems from a common Navy reference. Navy personnel refer to one another as "shipmate" while on board the ship. It's a common reference between a close-knit group.

The Mid Mon Valley Shipmates meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7PM at the American Legion Post 949. This is located on Route 481, Monongahela, Pennsylvania 15063. We are always looking for new members.



Joining the Mid-Mon Valley Shipmates Any Navy, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine or Wave is invited to join the Mid-Mon Valley Shipmates. They must be an Honorable Discharged Veteran and/or active service member. There are no residential restrictions. Forms for membership are available from the officers listed below or from any member of the Shipmates. It is requested that the new member be present at the meeting when his application is to be read, along with his sponsor, and the membership will vote on the application. Dues are $20.00 per year, payable with the application and then payable prior to the meeting in April of each preceding year. The Mid Mon Valley Shipmates will provide new members with whatever uniforms we have on hand that would fit him or her and the new member may be required to personally buy other uniform parts.
