The Mid Mon Valley Shipmates provides Flag Etiquette programs to schools and other organizations. The Flag Etiquette Program is designed to enhance the understanding of our History of the United States of America and the Flag “Old Glory”! The Program is presented at a Fifth Grade Level. Through displays and presentations, they will show the rules that should be followed when using and saluting the United States Flag. There is no cost for these presentations. While these rules are not actual laws, they are a set of codes used to show respect to the flag

The program is approximately 45 minutes and explains the history of our national emblem “Old Glory”, the Flag Code addresses disrespect and proper respect of the flag: the Pledge of Allegiance: the National Anthem: and includes a stirring poem about the American Flag. The Shipmates do the proper folding of the flag as the meaning of each fold is explained. This is followed by three students repeating the folding of the flag. Time permitting, a Q&A is held and the Shipmates are introduced and they give a short history of their Navy duties and their land and ship assignments. The program concludes with the proper way to retire the flag at the end of the day.
